Study Permit

Personal advice. A strategy built around your circumstances.

What it is

A study permit lets international students attend a designated learning institution in Canada for a program longer than six months. It also sets your work rights while you study.

Who is eligible

  • An acceptance letter from a designated learning institution
  • A provincial or territorial attestation letter, unless exempt; master's and doctoral students at public institutions don't need one
  • Proof of funds: $22,895 for a single applicant outside Quebec, plus first-year tuition and travel
  • A study plan that makes sense for your background
  • Ties that show you will respect the permit's conditions

While studying, you can work up to 24 hours a week off campus during classes. Changing schools requires a new study permit application.
