Visit and study permit
These three pages follow the Spousal Open Work Permit model: a snippet-ready answer, the judgment a reader cannot get from canada.ca, an FAQ, and a clear next step. Each page also carries the site-wide ProfessionalService and Person schema and a FAQPage schema built from its own FAQ, exactly as in that model, so the developer notes here stay short. Figures marked current should be reconfirmed against canada.ca at build time, since study permit funds, the cap, and super visa income rules all move.

Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa)
How long can I stay on a visitor visa?
Usually up to six months, decided by the officer when you enter. That is separate from how long the visa itself is valid.
Can I work on a visitor visa?
No. It is for visiting only.
I was refused before. Can I reapply?
Yes, but only with a stronger application that addresses the reasons for refusal. The officer's notes usually show what went wrong.
Do I need a visitor visa or an eTA?
It depends on your nationality and how you travel. Visa-required travellers need a visitor visa; many visa-exempt travellers need an eTA for air travel.
Can I extend my stay once I am here?
Yes, by applying for a visitor record before your current status expires.
Super Visa for Parents & Grandparents
How long can my parents stay?
Up to five years per entry, with multiple entries over a validity of up to ten years.
Do they need medical insurance?
Yes. At least $100,000 in coverage, valid for one year, from an eligible insurer, and paid for before you apply.
My income is a little below LICO. Any options?
Since March 31, 2026, if you meet at least 75 percent of LICO, your parent's own income can cover the remainder.
Can my parent work on a super visa?
No.
Is this better than sponsoring them?
They are different things. A super visa is long-term visitor status, not permanent residence, but with sponsorship intake paused it is the realistic route for extended visits right now.
Study Permit
How much money do I need to show?
About $22,895 for a single applicant outside Quebec as of late 2025, plus tuition and travel. Confirm the current figure before you apply.
Do I need a Provincial Attestation Letter?
Most applicants do. Master's and doctoral students at public institutions are exempt as of January 1, 2026, and Quebec uses the CAQ.
Does a PAL guarantee my study permit?
No. It only confirms you are counted within your province's share of the cap.
Can I work while studying?
Eligible students can work a set number of hours, but the limits have changed recently, so confirm the current rule for your situation.
Will I get a PGWP after I graduate?
Only if your institution and program qualify. It is worth checking before you enrol, not after.
